How To Paint A Striped Wall With Accent®

Adding stripes to a room is a sure-fire way to make a big impact. And classic horizontal stripes not only look great, but they can also make a space appear larger. Stripes make the perfect addition to a nursery or children’s rumpus room, and unlike most wall art, they won’t date, meaning that you can enjoy the look of your room for years to come. Stripes offer versatility when it comes to colour choices, too. From delicate buttery yellows to traditional navy blues or even cheery reds, the Accent Interior range includes lots of options sure to suit any taste. So, if you’ve been looking for a way to inject some personality and style into your home, this clever little DIY project might just fit the bill. You can use our handy instructions below to guide you through painting the perfect striped wall. We think you’ll love the result!

1. Measure

Start by measuring the height of your wall and divide it into equal increments and with a light pencil mark on either side of the wall. Run your masking tape from one side of the wall to the other, keeping it taut. Before you press the tape down firmly, check the line is parallel using a spirit level.

2. Mask

Use a good quality painters tape and apply above the pencil line for the top of your stripe and below the pencil line for the bottom of the stripe. Press tape down firmly to prevent any paint bleeding underneath.

3. Roll

Cut in and use a small roller to fill in the stripes. Work one stripe at a time so the cutting in doesn’t have time to dry before filling in. Overlapping wet and dry paint can cause lap marks, paint needs to be wet to blend smoothly.

4. Remove tape

Remove the tape while the paint is still wet. When removing the tape, start at one end and pull the tape back on itself in a steady, slow motion at a 45º angle. You will reveal a crisp, sharp painted edge. Very satisfying results!

And that’s it! Four simple steps are all it takes to create an eye-catching design ideal for any interior. Crisp stripes are an easy way to add charm and appeal to your little one’s room. And with the Accent range of paints, you’ll get a professional-looking finish with a real wow factor! You can make an impression by decorating your home with Accent.
